VEILBREAK launches with four modes, each built around a distinct reason to play. Standard is the complete map. Guided makes major quest direction readable. Surge compresses the pressure curve. Custom Mutations gives private matches control over the rules.
Standard
Standard is the full round-based experience. Every map system, Main Quest, side objective, enemy, Forge path, and secret is active. The game does not reveal the next solution automatically, although collected quest items remain visible in the Quest List.
Choose Standard when you want the intended balance, full discovery, complete progression, or a serious high-round run.
Guided Mode
Guided Mode identifies major objectives in a structured order. It does not skip combat, open doors, complete defenses, solve inputs, or defeat bosses for the player. The map remains a game rather than becoming a walkthrough.
Guided is intended for learning a Main Quest, understanding a map’s activation route, or experiencing its complete narrative without relying on an external video.
Surge
Surge reduces setup breathing room and accelerates enemy pressure. Routes, damage, and Oaths must be established quickly. The mode is designed for repeat challenge runs and players who already understand the map.
Surge does not replace round-based fundamentals. Positioning, resource decisions, and route control still matter; they simply matter sooner.
Custom Mutations
Custom Mutations allows private matches to change starting rounds, enemy behaviour, difficulty, player conditions, and other match rules. Up to three friendly bots can be added.
Main Quests are disabled because mutation combinations can bypass or invalidate the intended sequence. XP scales with the selected rules: easier conditions reduce rewards, while demanding conditions can improve them within the supported range.
Which Mode Should You Choose?
- First visit to a map: Guided if you want direction; Standard if you want discovery.
- Main Quest completion: Standard for the complete form or Guided for structured assistance.
- High-round survival: Standard.
- Fast combat session: Surge.
- Practice, bots, or unusual rules: Custom Mutations.
Progression Across Modes
Standard, Guided, and Surge all contribute to persistent progression. Custom Mutations also awards progression, but its displayed XP modifier reflects the rules selected before deployment.
